The Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) is the Spanish leading supercomputing center. It is home to the MareNostrum, which is a very powerful supercomputer in Europe. This Center is also a hosting member of the PRACE European distributed supercomputing infrastructure. The goal of the BSC is to develop, research and manage information technologies in order to provide facilitations for scientific progress. The center combines HPC service provision and R&D into the computer as well as computational science (engineering, earth and life sciences under one roof and as of today it has over 500 staff members from all around the world.
This year undergraduate students of all nationalities are welcome to apply for the research position scholarships at Barcelona Supercomputing Center. The research will take place at the Life Science Department of BSC. The qualified students will work on a project that intends to test the genetic interactome (epistasis) behind the disease, relying on type two diabetes as a pilot pathology. The qualified students will also complete a master thesis. Candidates will work in an HOC environment and have access to system as well as computational infrastructures. Candidates who possess biology-related background as well as ambition to develop their career in the field of biomedicine and computational genomics will receive preference.

The BSC offers a full time contract, a highly stimulating environment that has state-of-the-art infrastructure, extensive training plan, flexible hours, tickets restaurants, full support to the relocation procedures and private health insurance. The duration of the scholarship is temporary and salary will be competitive that is commensurate with the experience and qualifications of the successful applicants and according to the fee of living in Barcelona, Spain. The commencement date is on 01/02/2019.
