Friends of Design – Academy of Digital Arts was established in 2006. It is one of the top design education institutes in South Africa situated in Cape Town. The institution is recognised as well as accredited by the Department of Higher Education. It provides a wide range of full time courses; online courses; short courses and corporate training programs. This academy is committed to providing support for skills development in the creative fields, along with providing study opportunities for students that come from previously disadvantaged backgrounds to enter into the industry.
This year, applications for the Digital Arts scholarships at Friends of Design are open for South African students who otherwise couldn’t fund their studies without the award. This call targets at students who show a genuine passion as well as talent in the field of digital arts. Candidates who have finished matric and would like to pursue their studies towards a certificate qualification can apply.
The institution offers up to three SAQA-approved Higher Certificate courses for all students interested in studying full time. The length of the study is one year. The courses all consist of 152 credits and HEQSF-aligned. They include the following:
- Web Publishing and Interactive Media
- Print Design and Publishing
- Game Graphics and Multimedia Entertainment

All candidates must ensure they fulfil the following minimum entry criteria before applying. If you fail to meet all these requirements, then your application will not be considered.
- You must be a South African citizen
- You must have completed matric
- You must be passionate about pursuing a career in digital arts
- You must intend on studying at the Institution, towards one of the courses mentioned above
Students who come from previously disadvantaged background will receive preference.
