Kathleen Ann Stevens scholarships are now open for applications at Lincoln University. This call is open to both domestic students and overseas candidates. Lincoln University was founded in 1878. The University is known as the first degree-granting Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in New Zealand. It educates and empowers students to lead their communities and make a change in the world. The Lincoln University was initially linked to Canterbury College. The Institution welcomed its first intake of students in 1880. In 1961, the University was officially renamed Lincoln College and became a constituent college of the University of Canterbury. The University then formally separated itself from the University of Canterbury in 1990 and became the self-governing national Lincoln University that it is today.

The University established the Kathleen Ann Stevens scholarship program by a bequest from Percival George William Stevens, who was a former member of the staff of the Animal Science Department at Lincoln College, in memory of his deceased wife. The first scholarship was awarded in 1990.

The Kathleen Ann Stevens scholarships at Lincoln University are open to graduates at the University who are eligible to proceed to postgraduate study in wool or animal science. The award may be held outside or in New Zealand. One or more awards shall be offered per annum and be tenable for one academic year only. The future qualified students may re-apply in a subsequent year. Academic merit will be the criteria for scholarship selection. The number of award and its value will be decided by the Selection Committee. Kindly note that the Committee may refrain from giving out any award if there is no suitable applicant of sufficient merit.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Scholarships are open to New Zealand citizens or permanent residents as well as overseas students
  • Candidates must be a graduate student at Lincoln University and be eligible to proceed to postgraduate study in wool or animal science

How and When to Apply

Applications for the scholarships will close on March 31, 2019. No undertaking will be given to accept late submissions.

It is the applicants’ responsibility to contact their referees, and request them to send their references to the scholarship office. Note that references should be marked clearly with the applicant’s name and the name of the scholarship being applied.

If requested, please refrain from sending original birth certificates or other original materials. Send only copies that have been certified by a J.P, a staff member in the university registry or a solicitor.

Your application must not be put into any kind of folder. All pages must be attached with one staple in the top left hand corner. All pages must be A4 size.
