The Australian National University was established in 1946. It is one of the leading national research universities in Australia. The University consists of seven academic colleges as well as research centres. As a matter of fact, it is notable for being the world-leading centre for education, research and is also particularly known for its excellent programs in the social sciences and arts. Students will be well-prepared at the University in terms of addressing complex contemporary challenges.
This year, the Sydney Speak Master’s Thesis scholarship at Australian National University is open for application. This call aims to provide financial support to deserving and high achieving student who wish to undertake their master’s (Advanced) thesis at the University. The scholarship is open to pursue a master’s degree in Linguistics.
The objective of this program is to offer a stipend to qualified student who is writing a thesis on change as well as variation in Australian English which will contribute to the Sydney Speaks project. The award value is worth $4,000 and it will be a one-off payment for the full value. It will be paid at the beginning of the session or semester in which he or she commence his or her supervised thesis course.
Additionally, the successful student will also take responsibility for making payment of tuition costs by the stipulated date as set out by the Australian National University every session. The student is responsible for the cost of study materials, books, accommodation as well as other fees of study.
- Candidates can be a domestic or overseas students
- Candidates must be enrolling or already enrolled in the Masters of General and Applied Linguistics (Advanced) program available within the University’s School of Literature, Languages and Linguistics
- Candidates must have been approved to enrol or enrolled in a relevant Linguistics thesis course, namely THES 8102
- Candidates must be highly interested in researching change as well as variation in Australian English which will provide contribution to the Sydney Speaks project

Applications for this call are open every July 1 until September 1 for commencement in semester 1 the following year. As for commencement in semester 2, application will close on April 30, 2019.
